In Lansing on June 19, Warden Lacey Simpson led officers and guards to quell a 21 hour mutiny at the Kansas state prison coal mine. About 300 rioters were subdued, 730 foot mine level evacuated, with no injuries reported. Prison officials said no concessions were made to the rioters.

Martin Macleod aged 74 and nephew of Col. J. F. Macleod died at Pincher Creek. A veteran rancher who came west from Ontario in 1883, he helped found Fort Macleod and led the first Royal North West Mounted Police contingent into Southern Alberta. Funeral set for Thursday afternoon.
A hurricane accompanied by a minor earthquake killed two people in New South Wales. Tremors rocked furniture and caused plaster to fail in homes in northern Melbourne with the shock felt in southern New South Wales.
Miss Mona Reynolds of Calgary died when the car she rode in was sideswiped near Wetaskiwin. Bruce Hays of Spokane, driver of the other vehicle, said glare from oncoming headlights blinded him. Hays is hospitalized in shock. Three Wetaskiwin women were in the other car.
In Vancouver a three hour waterfront clash between striking longshoremen and police left about 100 injured, including eight officers and nine civilians. Police used tear gas and clubs to repel the attackers who charged Ballantyne pier as 200 workers were joined by 800 supporters.
Army worm caterpillars swarmed across rail lines in the Head of the Lakes division. Tracks became greasy and freight engines could not gain traction. Four trains between Fort William and Atikokan were stopped and crews split trains to move in sections via sidings.
