Kate Smith Dies at 79 Icon of American Patriotism

Kate Smith, famed for God Bless America and wartime fund raising, died at 79 at her Raleigh home. Her cause of death was not disclosed. Once a top radio star in the 1930s and 1940s, she battled diabetes related health issues after brain damage in 1976 and leg amputation in January. Her career included 700 hits and memorable songs such as The Moon Comes Over the Mountain and The White Cliffs of Dover. President Roosevelt once introduced her to King George VI as America.

Snowbirds crash investigation begins after Saskatchewan mid air collision

A military board at Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw opened inquiries into Tuesday s Snowbirds CT 114 Tutor collision over the Great Sand Hills in Saskatchewan. Capt. Bob Curran ejected and was rescued and remains in satisfactory condition. his wingman Capt. Gino Tessier landed in Medicine Hat for an air show. Curran was taken to the base hospital and monitored for 24 to 36 hours.

Ducks released in Great Lakes to test pollution uptake

Environment Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Service will release 50 lab raised ducks at Walpole Island and Hamilton Harbor to track pesticide and industrial contaminant transfer through the food chain.
