Chelsea's Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls closes its doors
Clarence Schweigert shut Chelsea's Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls in Medicine Hat Mall after the city adopted a no smoking bylaw on July 1 2002. He reports a 60 percent drop by August and about 35 000 to 40 000 in annual losses, leading to non renewal of the lease. He considered building a smoking area but costs were prohibitive and he blamed the bylaw for hollowing his business.
