Manitoba hospital strike settles at Winnipeg centre as others persist

Support staff at Health Sciences Centre and Manitoba Cancer Foundation accept a two year contract with an immediate 65 cent raise and a second raise in six months plus 11 per cent next May. The deal ends a 19 day walkout for about 1,900 workers at the two Winnipeg facilities while up to 1,000 workers at about 30 hospitals and care homes remain on strike. Talks resume Tuesday between CUPE and Manitoba Health Organizations Inc. The agreement includes a cost of living adjustment and a wage scale rise ranging 23.4 to 28.5 per cent by job type. A key issue remains job security against contracting out.
