Yuppies Eyed by Egg Tossing on Upper East Side

In Manhattan residents of East 83rd Street between First and York avenues report egg throwing at drunken patrons of bars The Mill and nearby establishments. Photographer Charles Goll, vice-president of the neighborhood association, says the acts follow appeals to authorities failing to curb what he calls random transient violence by mostly yuppies.

Fourth suspect charged in Korolak murder case

A fourth suspect was charged Friday afternoon in the Darlene Korolak murder case as her son faces murder charges. The 17-year-old, unnamed due to Young Offenders Act limits, was released on recognizance with a June 16 court appearance or a $5,000 bond. Ronald Shawn Korolak will plead to first degree murder and conspiracy on June 24 in Court of Queen's Bench after a three-day preliminary hearing. Two other males, ages 15 and 16, also face first degree murder charges with a transfer hearing to decide adult status set for Sept. 14. All suspects have remained in custody since an April 15 arrest.

Sarajevo siege eases to sporadic artillery duels

Ethnic fighting in the Serb besieged Bosnian capital eased to sporadic artillery duels and street battles. Bosnian forces attacked the Serb redoubt on the Vraca heights as Foreign Minister Haris Silajdzic dismissed a ceasefire as a delaying tactic amid the two month siege starving about 300,000 residents.

Canada offers $145 million debt write-off to aid rainforest protection

At the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro Prime Minister Brian Mulroney proposed canceling $145 million of Latin American debts in exchange for conservation spending by those nations. He pledged $20 million for Brazil forestry and $50 million for Southern Africa drought relief, while world leaders urged broader long term aid and governance reforms.
