Calgary council bars private review of Saddledome cost report
City council voted 7-6 to reject a private audit committee review of the Ta vand er report on why the Olympic Saddledome cost rose by 16.5 million dollars. The document, prepared by Calgary lawyer David Tavender, is due for public release at end of June.

Head Librarian Withdraws Appeal in $200 Theft Case
Bob Block head city librarian and public school trustee withdrew his appeal of a January 17 theft under $200 conviction. Judge A G Lynch granted an absolute discharge but Block later instructed his solicitor to appeal the case. The incident occurred at Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede when Block and Bart Wittke closed a booth selling the centennial book All Hell for a Basement and Block lent Wittke $50 from book proceeds.
