John Nelson Loftus, an elevator operator from Rosemary, pleaded guilty to five counts of fraud involving Pioneer Grain and the Canadian Wheat Board. He admitted handing out cash tickets totaling over $64,000 to two co-accused for grain not received and earned $5,800 in secret commissions from other farmers. A Pioneer Grain audit uncovered a 669 tonne shortfall worth $115,000. Loftus was sentenced to two years less a day on four counts, to run concurrently, with additional time on the fifth count.

Theft trial opens for Morishita and Lepp in Queen's Bench
Douglas Morishita of Brooks and Irvin Lepp of Rosemary face a three day jury trial on three counts of theft and fraud for alleged defrauding Pioneer Grain and the Canadian Wheat Board between June 1978 and February 1981.
