Rainfall Boosts Prospects for Crops in Southern Alberta

Heavy rain across southern Alberta last night and today lifted crop prospects in the region. Reports from Canadian Pacific Railway offices show three hours of soaking showers from Iron Books to Maple Creek and north to Empress, with further light showers between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. Total rainfall through the weekend is expected to reach about one inch, aiding crops though roads remained passable for motor traffic.

The funeral of the late W Johnston MLA who died suddenly at his home after 8 pm Saturday will be held from St Barnabas church tomorrow at 2 30 pm. Masons will perform the ceremonies at the graveside and reserve seating for Masonic and B of LE members. Hearse departs Nols funeral chapel at 2 10 pm, escorts from the Masonic Temple proceed to Fourth St and Sixth Ave where B of LW members join before the church. Sturgeon Lured and Landed Near Nelson At Kootenay Landing

A 164 pound sturgeon measuring 7 feet 6 inches was landed yesterday afternoon at Kootenay Landing by W T G Cos while fishing on a clothesline with bait of bees. The fish, seen near the landing previously, was brought to shore after a brief struggle and is exhibited in Pickard’s Fish store window. The fish is nicknamed Royal because of a historic Edward III edict.

Indians From Montana to Join Canadian Allied Tribes

Macleod Alberta June 8 For the first time since the Blackfoot treaty of 1877 Western Plains Indians from Canada and Montana will gather at Macleod July 1 3 to celebrate. Enmities fade as Sioux Blackfeet Cree Sarcee Peigan Assiniboine meet on friendly terms. Elders recall past battles while youngsters form the Allied Tribes of Western Canada in the Macleod Town Hall.

Alberta man disappears in Montreal on trip to Europe

Peter Milne of Milne Bros lumber, Edgerton Alberta, and his brother David were in Montreal last week en route to Europe. They planned to sail on a liner after visiting the Regina. The brothers became separated. Peter is missing with about one hundred dollars on him and a bequest of roughly five hundred. They were staying at a local hotel.

AL G Barnes Four Ring Circus Opens In Tent Town Today

The largest wild animal circus in the world arrives with 1200 trained animals, dozens of California girls, riders on dancing horses, calipposes, and three tribes of American Indians. Crowds filled the streets as the circus unloaded from long lines of cars and coaches for a holiday performance today.

Sharp Setback in Wheat on Winnipeg Exchange

Wheat prices on the Winnipeg Exchange fell sharply today with the July future down 41 cents as rains across the U S wheat belt and easing heat waves reduced demand. July dropped to 1 50 down 8c and July four lower at Lasie. Trading was quiet over the week end with selling pressure from longs and profit takers. Lower grades of Manitoba and Durum saw heavy selling while Winnipeg duty weakened against Chicago September.
