In Kamloops British Columbia an off duty auxiliary RCMP officer eating at a Tim Hortons identified prison escapee Simon Gibbs from a detachment bulletin. He tracked Gibbs along the street while another off duty officer alerted police. Gibbs was recaptured at the Plaza Hotel.
A UN official said 300 Liberian refugees were killed and 765 injured at an abandoned rubber plantation near Monrovia. Witnesses accused Charles Taylor's rebels, who denied responsibility, while the incident followed a suspected radio order to terrorize refugees amid Liberia's civil war. Also, UN Security Council urged UNOSOM to pursue those responsible for the death of 22 Pakistani peacekeepers in Mogadishu.
