Tragic chemotherapy mix up kills young leukemia patient
A seven year old girl from Sidney on Vancouver Island died at BC Children’s Hospital after a med ication error during May 21 chemotherapy. Vincristine intended for IV was injected into her spine, an almost always lethal mistake. Hospital president Lynda Cranston apologized and pledged learning to prevent future tragedies.

Baffin Island group airlifted from drifting ice floe
A group of 15 students teachers and Inuit elders from Pond Inlet on a six day school trip were airlifted by helicopter after their camp ice floe broke free and drifted about 100 kilometres north of Baffin Island. The rescue team from CFB Trenton landed on the ice at 3 40 p m EDT and flew off 20 minutes later with all aboard.

Edmonton man confesses to dismembering murder
Gary Swanson testified that Donald Smart admitted strangling Jo Anne Dickson after meeting her at a south side blues bar on New Year’s morning 1996. Smart described dumping body parts, washing with chlorine, and having sex with the corpse during the following week.
