Monetary policy debate in Canada amid high rates
The piece surveys macroeconomic schools from Keynesianism to monetarism and post Keynesians, noting Bank of Canada rates at a record 19.1 percent. It traces policy shifts from 1930s mood to stagflation of the 1970s, Trudeau’s monetarist tilt, and the promise of shopworn tools like wage and price controls versus new cooperative approaches.
