Royal couple meet Deer Lodge veterans in Winnipeg

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth paused at Deer Lodge hospital in Winnipeg to mingle with more than 120 disabled veterans, nurses, and orderlies in a rotated rotunda visit. The royal pair then continued eastward by royal train toward Ontario.

Fatalities Mark Royal Visit to Saskatoon

Three fatal accidents marred a royal visit to Saskatoon as crowds of up to 100000 traveled to the city. Madeline Des champs, 11, died after a track overturned en route to the event. Walter Joseph Vossen, hotel clerk, died from injuries after a truck crash carrying children toppled near Clarkborn. Louis Molle, a Romancé retiree, died in a separate incident near Tiepot as a switcher rammed a derailment.

Train accident claims life near Saskatoon

A man was struck by a train engine buffer and died after being placed on the train before it reached Saskatoon. The incident prompted authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
