Kingston June 5 The Assembly will meet in Winnipeg in 1916. Sioux Manitoba question noted with liquor law telegram to Hon Walter Scott. Berlin June 4 Emperor William visits Archduke Frederick celebrating Przemysl fall amid enthusiastic crowds.
Calgary June 5 Before the appeal division of the supreme court argument was heard in the appeal by the Canadian Pacific Railway company against a Medicine Hat verdict granting Franklin C. Jackson 27000 damages for injuries when his head struck a crane on a mail transfer track. Jackson, an engineer, was leaning from his cab when struck and faces permanent mental and physical injuries. The railway argues damages are excessive and certain trial evidence was irrelevant. The respondent contends for 50000.
The casualty report lists Canadian forces with 12 killed, 98 injured, and five missing since yesterday. Notable names include Corporal Arthur Mortimer of Calgary and Charles Mack of Hilda among the wounded, plus Maxwell D. Fraser killed at the front. Fraser, born in London, had served with the Strathconas after initially seeking a commission at Valcartier.
The city and district add two more names to the war casualty list. L C Smith, formerly of the C P R here and recently with Bridges and Building, is wounded and missing after enlisting with the Seventh Battalion in Nelson. His parents in Winnipeg await word. Charles Mack of Hilda is also listed, believed to have enlisted in Calgary.
William Herbert Whitfield of Bow Island is listed among the wounded in yesterday's casualty list, confirming his injuries and status.
