COLUMBIA AP The government dropped two charges against Army Capt Howard B Levy convicted by a general court martial on five counts of disobedience and dis loyalty. Levy, 30, a dermatologist at Fort Jackson Army Hospital, faced up to eight years. He was convicted of Wilful disobedience to train green beret medics and of making disloyal statements aimed to promote dis loyalty among troops, including remarks about Vietnam and Negro soldiers.

Edmonton pilot plants centennial flag at North Pole
John Cameron, a 43 year old Edmonton pilot with Gateway Aviation, landed a single engine de Havilland Otter on an Arctic ice floe near the North Pole on May 14. He drifted over the Pole, planted a flag, dropped an ocean floor transformer, and conducted seismic and celestial observations with a four scientist team before returning to Alert. The feat was aided by star navigation and carried a 24 hour operation as fuel was carried in drums.
