Canada Pacific Railway meeting outlines finances and policy

The Canadian Pacific Railway shareholders meeting led by president E. W. Beatty addressed 1924 earnings declines due to weaker manufacturing and crop activity, with April gains suggesting improving conditions. He warned that rail and ocean traffic remain below normal, urging cost curtailment while maintaining service standards, and discussed government subsidies and immigration policy as factors shaping future profits. Mrs Beatty cited private ownership and government backing as roots of past issues and emphasized economies and reduced duplication across a sprawling national system.
