Ottawa outlines the plan for the 1919 wheat crop with a government board to buy and market the crop, provide cash advances to farmers, sell to millers and export flour, cap profits, and bar futures trading during the crop season. The board and initial cash price to farmers will be announced soon.
In Toronto on July 30 Judge Marian quashed the conviction of Rev. B. O. Spence, secretary of the Dominion Alliance, related to the banned Parasite publication. The ruling cited lack of an attempt to circulate the work after publication.
Miss Alice Smith aged 48 disappears after preparing to visit a lawyer to claim a $25,000 estate. She left home in coat and hat for the Fraser River crossing near Vancouver and is presumed to have drowned with no body recovered. Her brother, recently deceased in Edmonton, reportedly left her the legacy.
Cleveland Harrison 32, of Colbert county, died two days after a rattlesnake bite at a Hold Oilers gathering near Tuscumbia Alabama. He believed he was immune, allowed the bite, and succumbed despite medical care leaving a widow and two children.

Mrs Mary Frye of Paterson New Jersey claims her son Frank Frye a private in Company TD 8091 Infantry was bayoneted to death in France in August 1918 by an American sergeant for refusing to bear arms on conscience grounds. The sergeant was court martialed and acquitted, allegedly for obeying superior orders. Mary Frye telegraphed the War Department requesting an investigation.
Chicago reports continued rioting last night with 22 dead and many wounded. A white attack on a Negro residence at 57th Street and Wentworth drew a line of patrols as Illinois regiments rush to the city, boosting forces to over 7,000.
London Ont July 30 a fine of 500 with six months term option was imposed by Police Magistrate Barnlett on Westley Montgomery of Yarmouth near St Mahanas who pleaded guilty with Mrs Emily Purcell to a joint charge of bilatorality and contamination of children. The magistrate censured Montgomery for taking advantage of the husband’s overseas absence. Sentence suspended for the woman and the children placed in the care of the Children’s Aid Society pending the father’s return.
