Edmonton July 20 The Alberta wheat board bill was given second reading in the legislature with no opposition. Attorney General Brownlee defended the measure as a temporary step to improve marketing, as Lorne Proudfoot supported it and urged farmer cooperation in the future. Hoadley noted improved cream grading and reported grasshopper campaign costs rising to about 450000 for the year, half borne by municipalities. The house adjourned to Saturday after a session resumed.
At Maple Creek the Western Canada Irrigation association urged Saskatchewan Alberta and British Columbia to provide enhanced facilities for irrigation farming training. Delegates stressed reducing US reliance for technical staff and called for stricter weed regulations to keep canals clear. Nome Alaska July 29 Captain Rapld Amundsen and his Maud begin a drift toward the North Pole in the Arctic ice. The ship left Deering on Kotzebue Sound bound through the Behring Strait as faint radio signals reported departure for the Arctic.
Dublin May 29 National troops captured the village of Bruree two miles from Kilmalock where irregulars held a strong position after retreating from Limerick. Glenveagh Castle in County Donegal, a former irregular HQ, was also reported captured. Prisoners, arms, ammunition, and despatches on republican strength and movements were taken. D. J. Donovan, head of irregulars intelligence, was captured.
