Halifax July 29 The steamer John Irwin, bound Morcon to Halifax, foundered off Beaver Light in a gale. Eleven crew died. mate W L McLeod survived, reaching Shorebrook. He spoke of a cork belt raft and the ship’s sudden doom as hatches were torn away. He could not name all eleven crew members.
