Prosecutors allege Marlon Brando Gill shoved a cellphone into Melinda Abell's throat in a December incident, while the defense says she swallowed it intentionally to hide calls. Abell, 25, testified she cannot recall how the phone entered her throat after heavy drinking and questioned her police statement. The couple’s relationship, dating to 2004, was described as once good but now rocky.
A very drunk man alighted from a taxi near Division Ave and 9th Street around 1 a.m. He was struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier, rushed to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with contusions and a possible ankle fracture. Police say no charges will be laid against the man or the driver.
Alberta Agriculture reports crops in Medicine Hat Lethbridge Strathmore and Foremost area in good to excellent condition despite heat and moisture stress. Over 80 per cent spring cereals 85 per cent canola 90 per cent dry peas rated good or excellent. Swathing of winter cereals begun. sugar beets dry beans and potatoes look promising. Soil moisture varies from poor to excellent across the region.
