Youth Arrested Over Stolen Truck Crash

Police report on July 26 at 5 20 a m two youths were arrested in a stolen 2003 GMC 2500 pickup after it crashed in the 400 block of Sierra Boulevard. The vehicle left the road and struck a parked truck and an attached garage causing about 10 000 in damage with no injuries. The youths fled but were located shortly after and are in custody with charges pending.

Alberta couple win 6 49 lottery prize in Edmonton

Edmontonians Zhi Long Xiao and Sheung Oi Yu won 6.9 million in the Lotto 6 49 draw. The couple, who own a restaurant, plan a relaxing holiday and will hand over running duties to staff while they take a break. Xiao has more than 20 years of play experience and chose his numbers mentally at the Lucky 97 Chinese food market.

Sudbury Monument Defiler Arrested After Urination Incident

A Winnipeg man, Shawn Morris, was arrested in Sudbury Ontario after allegedly urinating on the Navy League monument in Memorial Park. Two officers spotted him with a beer bottle, he dropped it on the memorial and fled. Morris faces charges of mischief resisting arrest carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Accused killer appears in court in Brooks

Colin George Winsor, 30, faced in Brooks provincial court on second degree murder charges in the disappearance and death of 17-year-old Ashton Moon. His election and plea date was set for August 23. Moon was reported missing June 20 after failing to appear for work. Her body was found July 1 south of Brooks.

NAFTA favours U.S. approach on toxic pollution waste

The NAFTA Commission for Environmental Co operation reports nearly three million tonnes of toxic chemicals were produced as waste in North America in 2003. About a quarter was released to air with 11 percent carcinogens and eight percent harming birth or reproductive health. U.S. plants cut toxics by 21 percent since 1998 and Canada by 10 percent.

Yates Found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity

Andrea Yates, 42, was acquitted by reason of insanity in the bathtub drowning deaths of her children. She will be committed to a state mental hospital and held until deemed no longer a threat, avoiding a murder conviction and life prison sentence.
