The Stampede Company Centennial project a multi purpose centre valued over 800000 faced a federal funding blow after a letter from Agriculture Minister Harry Hays saying loans are not yet authorized. The plan which included a 400000 Centennial fund and a ballot proposal faces uncertain fate with no guaranteed financing.
Stampede President Eugene Burton said the letter from Agriculture Minister Harry Hays has killed the civic centre proposal. The Stampede Company depended on up to 600000 in federal loans to fund the building, but such loans seem unlikely soon. Burton called the decision a loss for the community.
Ed McKenzie for the Historical Society says the Trans-Canada Highway museum needs a 1800 square foot expansion to ease crowding. The proposed addition would extend open months with a new heating plant, raising costs only slightly and drawing public reaction from officials and the mayoral proposal.
