Designer of election poster commits suicide in South Africa

Rup B F Vanniekirk, who produced a poster showing a white woman and a colored husband with mixed children, shot himself after claiming he insulted South African womanhood. Fanatic Wrecks Power Plant of Govt in Edmonton

A man broke into the Public Works Department shops in south Edmonton and grappled with night watchman S. S. Magee before escaping as police searched the area. Sabotage at the Alberta legislative buildings caused power failures. three suspects were under surveillance with no arrests. The Alberta public works minister called the incident fanatic work. Heavy weekend showers spared Brooks while crops stay strong in the Eastern Irrigation District. Fail rye cut and stocked, alfalfa first cut averaged 11 tons per acre, grasshoppers damaged fields mainly south of Brooks, but a tiny red mite parasite reduced them rapidly.
