Elizabeth Simmons, 63, was killed near Peers on the Jagper highway when a horse drawn wagon bolted as a speeding bicycle approached. The wagon wheel passed over her chest, crushing her lungs, and she died at the scene.
Jacob Kroeker pleaded guilty at Irvine court before Judge Wiedeman to practising as an unqualified medical practitioner under Alberta law. The first offence carried a fifty dollar fine with a warning that a second offence could bring fifty to two hundred dollars and up to three months in jail. Kroeker from Grassy Lake had treated patients in Irvine between July 19 and 26 diagnosing and prescribing, then charging for services.
Saint John July reports Thomas Liddell farmhand is tracking five newly born skunks from Mrs. Skunk after a groundhog chase. Three are white and two are formal colored. this is the third white kit Liddell is seeking.

Regina reports archaeologists Mtt and Mrs. Kenley Hunter found a complete Titanothere skull in Cypress Hills Saskatchewan. The horned rhinoceros like mammal, plus Mes hippus and Lepomery bones, date back about thirty million years. Specimens will go to Ottawa museum.
Dispatches from the Madrid front report General Franco's legions reaching the outskirts of Villanueva de la Canada after two elite government brigades were said to be reduced to a single company about 390 men of an estimated 3000. Reinforcements were reported moving into the government western front to bolster a sagging line.
At a four hour meeting the 27 nation committee scrapped the July 14 British plan for a seven point questionnaire on non intervention in Spain. Instead governments will state their definite stands on belligerency and volunteers withdrawal amid Italian criticism and Soviet warnings.
In Melbourne Australia July 26 an alarm over infantile paralysis led to the closure of 100 schools within a 50 mile radius. About 30000 children normally attend. Children were not allowed to gather in streets and playgrounds lay deserted. Four deaths have been reported so far.
A Canadian Airways Limited plane will fly from the Edmonton seaplane base on a royal command mission to forward mail to the Governor General aboard the 8.8. Distributor en route to Aklavik and later Resolution. Mail will be received at a special post office aboard the Hudsons Bay Company ship.
S. J. Boyd, manager of the Bank of Mortireal branch, remains in critical condition at Lacombe Hospital after a Saturday night crash on the Gull Lake highway. His car collided with H. G. Dye’s vehicle, pushed fifty feet, with Boyd blamed for swerving after being blinded by oncoming lights. both cars suffered extensive damage.
Edmonton July 26 The Dominion Government will refund one half of freight charges on carload shipments of livestock feeders bought in prescribed Alberta areas. Minister Hans D Mullen said the feeder policy covers country points within the area and some outside it. The drouth region in Alberta is the target, with plans to bring more stock to central and northern areas. Other negotiations include haying outfits shipping to meadow land and return, and feeding shipments into the drouth zone.
