Cochrane’s Bob Robinson topped the money list at the Stampede with a strong showing. Dick Bryant of Loveland won the Brahma bull title earning $352, while Steamin’ Stan Walker of Medicine Hat collected $314 for steer decorating. Wilf Gerlitz, Keith Hyland, Steve Johnson, Gene Pederson, Bud Van Cleave and others earned sizable prizes across bull riding calf roping steer decorating saddle bronc and bareback categories. A keen finish in steer decorating saw Van Cleave and Walker locked in a tight contest with times on opening rounds and a no-time for Johnny Hawk affecting the outcome.
Medicine Hat businessman Maurice Lupa died in Maple Creek General Hospital from injuries suffered in a Saturday night car crash near Piapot Saskatchewan. Hitchhiker Doug Hong of Calgary was injured but in good condition. inquest held by RCMP. Survived by widow Rose two daughters Gail and Carol a brother Louis a sister and his mother Sarah Lupa.

Richard Dupuis and Jean Marc Giguere of St Alexis were in serious condition in Louiseville hospital. Police say speeding may have caused the crash.

Rainfall varied across Calgary and Edmonton with southeast Edmonton near two inches while the airport reported half an inch.
