Evacuees told to loop into Alberta for aid from Jasper fires
Thousands forced from Jasper National Park into British Columbia faced a dire lack of capacity as fires raged. Alberta officials directed evacuees to reverse course via routes through Prince George or Kamloops to reach Grande Prairie or Calgary for shelter. Fire crews battled hot winds as 170 fires burned across Alberta and communities opened relief centers in Grande Prairie, Calgary, and Valemount to house displaced residents and tourists amid smoky conditions.
