Thomas Nicholson, long believed dead after the Halifax explosion, returns to Spring Hill Nova Scotia after a chance recognition by a Montreal hospital visitor. He reunites with brothers George and Charles, who live in the town.
Mrs Samuel Bannan of Blakemore Ireland formerly Medicine Hat injured in a car crash near Spokane Washington last Thursday night July 16. She suffers two fractures of the pelvis a fractured arm a badly lacerated right leg and a cut over the right eye. Doctors say she will recover though in hospital for at least two months more. Samuel Bannan her husband is hurt but not seriously and will reach Blairmore tomorrow.
July first reading moves a New Zealand profiteering bill toward law. It imposes up to three months in prison or a $6,000 fine for price infringers. The measure sets basic prices for services and goods in industries that raised prices since last June.
EDMONTON July 24 CP S A G Barnes Alberta legislator for Edmonton suspended from the party tried with unemployed delegates to gain admission to the government caucus. The delegation sought to press demands for higher relief and was told the agenda could not be altered to allow them to speak.
In Brussels the advance guard of 116000 Canadian pilgrims to the Vimy Memorial dedication next Sunday was welcomed. Brigadier General Alex Ross praised King Albert’s courage and recalled 1915 aid to Belgium. The 6000 pilgrims travel as an army of peace and goodwill, with memories of wartime days and a note of sadness over the king’s absence.

In Blairmore 56 men battling a forest blaze at the head of the west branch of Castle river were cut off by flames crossing the British Columbia boundary into Alberta. Assistant fire ranger Joe Cardinal said they were not in danger and the team would be reached today as reinforcements rushed into the district.
Joe Charron delivered the first load of spring wheat to Ogilvie Milling on Thursday. The wheat weighed 59 pounds per bushel and was No 1 Northern. Many farmers are cutting their crops for feed as threshing would not be profitable.

George Andrew McMahon, who drew a revolver during a royal parade, was remanded to jail for a week at Bow Street after a hearing. He told police he wanted to shoot the King but lost his head and later said he wished he had carried out the act or shot himself. Special Constable Anthony Gordon Dick is credited with disarming him. the woman in grey who reportedly struck his arm did not appear.
In a by election caused by Sir Alfred Butt’s resignation the Conservative candidate Lt Col G Doland defeated Labour contender Captain W J Miller by 14959 to 12889. The result shows Labour holding its own though Conservative support fell from 1935. A second by election in East Grinstead, due to Sir H S Cautley’s elevation, is not yet announced.
Roy McLean received notice on July 22 that he was appointed foreman for graded road work in Winnifred township 11 range 9. The first move on July 23 began organizing a crew to improve a two mile stretch from the highway to Winnifred, with efforts aimed at speeding completion.
Air Commodore Hollick Kenyon will lead experimental radio and airway tests this season aboard a 10 passenger Electra from Vancouver to Winnipeg. Major MacLaren oversees Pacific Coast Canadian Airways testing in Las Vegas before Hollick Kenyon takes over the aircraft.
Paul Huntley, 18, of Calgary, died when his parachute failed to open during a display at about 1,800 feet. A crowd of 2,000 watched as his body landed outside airport grounds after a jump that was his first. Huntley had 20 hours solo flying credited and had qualified for a private pilot license weeks earlier.

Detroit officers told by Dayton Dean the Black Legion executioner that draining a Pinokney Michigan swamp near where Silas Coleman was found would reveal seven more bodies. Detectives and a serious case squad pursue the claim as part of a major homicide investigation.
Three left wing Labour MPs from Glasgow seats George Buchanan Campbell Stephen and Jock McGovern were suspended from the House of Commons after a wild uproar during debate on unemployment assistance. The deputy speaker named Buchanan for unparliamentary language after he accused Home Secretary Sir John Simon of lying. An earlier outburst by McGovern prompted further disruption and a 15 minute suspension.
Hon. W. N. Chant, Alberta agriculture minister, called the southern Alberta drought a national problem beyond province capacity. Prairie regions face critical need for rain, with significant cattle removals and irreparable grain damage in southern areas. Wheat on the Winnipeg Grain Exchange rose on export sales, while Chant prepared to seek federal relief aid in Ottawa.
