Convict Seizes Hostages To Seek Psychiatric Help In Montreal
A 21-year-old inmate at Laval Institute held two instructors and about 30 prisoners for nearly four days demanding transfer to a hospital for the criminally insane. After negotiations, Philippe Germain released the last prisoners and surrendered to authorities. He will face court for a 30 day psychiatric evaluation.

Truck driver killed in crash on Trans-Canada bridge
A semi trailer crossed the Trans-Canada Highway bridge and collided with a car before crashing through the guard rail. Terry Csimar 21 of Lennox SD died at the scene. Three others were injured. Medicine Hat man Brian Whitenec pleaded guilty in provincial court to four charges of indecent assault on juvenile boys.
