Ottawa sources say Prime Minister Trudeau may reconvene Parliament September 28 without a general election. The Family Income Security Program faces heavy amendments, opposition fears over means testing and stigma, and Liberal doubts whether the bill passes in a post election session.
London AP reports Britain faces a country wide dock strike as five jailed union militants trigger a potential general strike. Half of 45,000 dockers halted work after the National Industrial Relations Court ordered arrests for defying a ban on container movement. London docks emptied and major ports like Liverpool and Hull idle. other ports expected to shut by Monday unless the court frees the imprisoned militants.
Prime Minister Trudeau and family were scheduled to pass Medicine Hat on the CP Rail train, having boarded at Kenora Ontario after a quiet Lake of the Woods day. They planned a one day stopover in Calgary and Banff before continuing to Vancouver to visit Mrs. Trudeau’s parents.

British troops swept into Markets Lower Falls and Andersonstown under heavy gunfire in Belfast after Friday bombings. The operation aimed to punish the IRA with large scale raids. casualties mounted with at least 18 dead in two days of violence and gun battles across the capital.
Information Minister Mohamed Hassan el Zayyat said Egypt will accept sophisticated arms from any source after the withdrawal of Soviet advisers. He noted Egypt could use 25 to 30 U S Phantoms and urged Europe to press the United States for Middle East peace while stressing Egypt is not allied with any superpower. He condemned the idea that the U S or the Soviet Union are the “good guys.”

Blain Kenneth Beierbach, 15, of Box 114 Walsh, died Thursday night when dragged by a bolting horse about 17 miles south of Walsh. He suffered a fractured skull and died at Medicine Hat General Hospital. RCMP say the horse bolted while the boy led it to water. An inquest date has not been set.
