Alberta leads Canada in crime rate rise says police chief

Statistics Canada data show crime up 12 percent in Alberta in 2015, the largest provincial increase among Canada’s regions. Police Chief Andy McGrogan cites unemployment and drug use, especially meth, as drivers. Nationally, crime rose three percent with notable jumps in murder, homicide, and robberies. Alberta’s rate remains below Saskatchewan and Manitoba but reflects more break ins and vehicle thefts.
