A 20 year old prisoner escaped on horseback from Collins Bay Penitentiary near Kingston Ontario Friday night. Police found it unknown how he obtained the horse but presume he worked on the prison farm. Earl Maitland of Blind River Ontario, serving a two year term for breaking and entering, was named as the escapee and was to be released in October. Police said Maitland was not considered dangerous.
The Friday afternoon rodeo featured Buddy Heaton subduing the last Brahma bull to cap a day of stampede excitement. Spectators saw Heaton tempt with a barrel then dash for the fence as the bull raged and several riders faced challenges behind the chutes. Judges Floyd, Peterlan, and Clem Gardner noted many stampede moments while regional attendees looked on.
The House approved a 3.12 billion foreign aid authorization by 254 to 154, trimming Eisenhower’s request by 727.8 million.
