Extensive Crop Damage From Last Week Storm HitsWisdom District

TheWisdom district reports widespread crop loss from last week’s storm with hail destroying acres across farms including Fred Schlinker 125 acres and Mrs Brandt 200 acres. Edmonton Minsiter Vernor Smith Dies at 68 in Alberta

Hon. Vernor Smith, 68, Minister of Railways and Telephones in the Alberta Government, collapsed outside his Edmonton home at 6:00 p.m. while returning from preparing a summer home at Pigeon Lake. A doctor said excitement and haste contributed to a fatal heart attack. he had long suffered angina. He leaves a widow, four daughters and a son. Funeral plans pending. He was a prominent figure in Alberta politics since 1921 and helped expand the provincial telephone system and northern railways. He also greeted Wiley Post and Harold Gatty during their Edmonton visit.
