Stampede night show ends abruptly as a guy rope breaks injuring Sky King Pat Moore who clung to a swinging steel pole 100 feet up. Patrons 1,659 at the venue faced a sudden scare during the near tragedy event reported by Patrick J. Roe.
A roaring first day at Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede drew 15 600 attendees up 718 from last year and 3 270 from 1961. Officials opened the rodeo with the Hon L C Halmrast minister of welfare, who praised the cattle country and quality stock. The two hour show featured cutting horse acts, a crowd of 5 520 near capacity for opening ceremonies, and a sensational pole swap stunt during the opening event.
