Government drops charges against Alberta oil firms
Calgary July 18 The prosecution of four oil companies for disobeying Alberta Gas Conservation Board orders at Turner Valley was dropped in Police Court today. The companies Okalta Oils New McDougall Segar Oil Company Structure Oil and Gas Co and Spooner Oils Ltd were facing heavy fines for refusing to close gas wells during conservation tests. The Attorney General's Department in Edmonton ordered the charges dropped. The Crown said the firms are now adhering to conservation orders.

The Alberta Department of Agriculture ordered the closure of over thirty poison bait stations as hopper activity shifts to flying stages. Hon. George Hoadley announced the campaign’s end noting the pest threat is reduced and losses unlikely to be heavy. St Lawrence Seaway Treaty Signed by Canada and U S
