Reports from London and Paris describe heavy German losses in the French offensive. Allied lines hold with limited ground gained, while French and British forces counterattack to slow the advance. Casualty tallies cited include about 100,900 German losses to date.
Hon. C. A. Dunning reveals striking figures on Canada’s food output during the Saskatoon fair. He cites a three year prewar average versus the 2 ten months ending tidy bins showing increases in wheat and wheat products shipments, pork, milk, beet, and other staples as Canada makes extraordinary efforts to feed the allies.
Mr T Bell reported on a successful provincial Retail Merchants Association convention in Medicine Hat with nine hundred members. Medicine Hat won the vote to host next year as the city executive decides the exact date. A local merchant was elected vice president and officers were named President T G Gaeta Red Dean, Vice President AJ FL LePace, Secretary Gybnesy Edmaiton, and Treasurer Nob McDermid Calgary. Colonel Turner will visit on Friday.
Lieut W Bo Tait and Second Air Machinist H Belford of the Royal Air Force were killed when their aeroplane stalled during a test at Leaside camp. The craft fell and caught fire. both men died before help arrived. Tait was son of Dr Nelson Tait of Toronto. Belford's mother lives in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.

London July 17 Lieut Quentin Roosevelt youngest son of ex President Roosevelt was killed on July 14 near Chateau Thierry while with the American air forces on the Mare front. He was returning from a patrol flight when attacked by German aircraft and is believed to have been mortally wounded.
Protracted appeal to the Privy Council over Roman Catholic tax payment for separate schools. John McCarthy argues for Catholic rights while the Regina Public School Board defends mandatory public schooling and funding, with proceedings tied to autonomy and religious denomination concerns.
Winnipeg will gain an air control station in a few weeks. Aviators bound for overseas will stage exhibition flights across the prairies to show western Canadians modern war planes and the proficiency of thousands of young Canadians preparing to join the western front. He noted exhibition flights across the prairies had been discussed, and if a core route opens with stations in western cities, this city might not secure a station.
The executive committee of railway workers in Montreal adjourned without choosing to authorize a strike. Federation president RoE CPalon stated no order would be sent yet. The group plans to reconvene tomorrow to consider a broader offer from the executive committee.
