Ottawa reports a possible resolution to a nationwide postal walkout as government offers a wage package. Mediator Rene Lippe to meet with postal union negotiator Romeo Mathieu and Doug Love to discuss terms. Early talks were delayed by a hotel room access issue but resumed with cautious optimism.
Iraqi radio reports a bloodless coup as the Revolutionary Command Council takes over all executive and legislative powers. Baghdad shuts borders airports ports and railways with an indefinite curfew while Aref is expelled to an unknown exile. The council vows to continue the fight against Israel and defend July 14 and March 8 revolutions.
After 27 days of stoppage 300 union members walked out at Molson's plant and 2,460 workers were locked out province wide. Negotiators announced early today that seven locals would ratify an agreement, allowing beer to return within 24 hours of approval.
Belgrade reports Tito will fly to Czechoslovakia to show solidarity with Prague's liberal communist regime. The decision, made Tuesday by the Yugoslav Communist party central committee, signals Yugoslavia's backing for Czechoslovaks in their struggle within the Soviet orbit.
The Council of Postal Unions dismissed the treasury board offer of 15 cents an hour over 14 months as totally inadequate. The rejection, announced by Isaac Turner at a news conference, signals the strike to begin after the offer’s rejection and delayed mediation talks with Judge Lippe.

A National Airlines DC-8 carrying 64 people was hijacked over Texas by a man with a grenade and pistol who forced the plane to land at Jose Marti Airport in Havana. The hijacker, described as Cuban, walked off with security. Passengers were removed, including U.S. servicemen, while a potentially ill traveler was taken by ambulance.
Toronto police report the stabbed bodies of a 26 year old mother Mrs Maurice Raymond and her three daughters Anne six Cecile five and Lucille four months found in their basement apartment. The husband was treated for possible poisoning and found semi conscious in the basement. Nearby neighbors recall the Raymonds had lived in the building about three weeks after moving from Timmins Ontario.
Two youths died in a 1:40 am crash on the Trans-Canada Highway half a mile west of Dunmore. Patrick Schafer 18 of 618th St N.E. and Louis Bonette 19 of Bow Island perished in a westbound car collision with an eastbound semi driven by Leo Miller of Calgary who was uninjured. RCMP have not identified the other driver. Coroner E G F Skinner ordered an inquest.
In Paris the United States urged North Vietnam to declare actions after a bombing halt, asking whether Hanoi would slow the war or intensify aggression. Ambassador Harriman said no progress was made after the 13th session, with Xuan Thuy absent and discussions focusing on restraint and reciprocity.
Ray Earl James may be flown back to the United States tonight or Thursday to face trial for the King assassination. He signed a declaration not to appeal the extradition, enabling a Home Office decision possibly before dark. Ray was arrested at Heathrow June 8 on forged passport and unlicensed gun charges.
Victoria resident Jack Normandeau 21 says two strangers shadow him and fear kidnapping to Washington State for a military court proceeding. He joined the United States Marines in Seattle in 1967 to fight in Viet Nam and later left with a Canadian passport after serving as a radio operator with the 1st Marine Division. His Canadian lawyer has contacted Prime Minister Trudeau for the government’s position on the case.
