Suffield staged its 500 ton non nuclear surface blast at 10 58 AM with a black smoke cloud rising a few thousand feet and two orange fireballs. The Optimist Club of Medicine Hat holds its 2nd annual Soap Box Derby tomorrow at 9 30 a m with about 21 cars on the 3rd St hill course in front of Safeway. Entries face strict specs for length height clearance wheelbase and weight with drivers 10 to 14. Western Canada Soap Box Association heads from Mission City B C and annual prize money totals $3 000 with Akron Ohio scholarships and trophies worth $30 000 for the ultimate winner. Also announced are garden and grounds contest results from the Medicine Hat Horticultural Society with winners including Mrs George Shiel and Frank Westgarth among others and judges from Brooks Horticultural Station led by John Otterloo. Prizes contributed by Northwest Nitro Chemical Company.
