Railroads deny arbitration failures in wage dispute with unions
Chicago July 17. Federal mediation over wage differences between engineers and firemen and ninety eight western railroads was sought by the railroad managers conference committee. They asked unions to cite specific instances of noncompliance while denying the charge that awards were ignored and announcing a move to seek federal mediation under the 1913 act. The letter, signed by A W Trenholm as committee chairman, states the unions refuse federal arbitration.
