Air Canada employees across four cities called a 24-hour study session skipping a strike to keep flights moving. Mechanics baggage handlers and ramp staff filled in, with volunteers cleaning planes and operating lavatories as the carrier faced a $5 million January-April loss and a potential 1971 profit gap if a walkout recurs.
Lachance, vice chairman of Canada's external affairs committee, said Pakistan shows little interest in repatriating refugees from India. He and two MPs toured East Pakistan and warned of a long struggle as the army crackdown deepens the crisis. They noted Bengali nationalism and cited shelling across the border amid dire port city conditions.

A 19 year old outrider Ro Glass died after a chuckwagon race mishap in Calgary. Police and Stampede officials said he was knocked down during the first turn by two outfits and later died of internal hemorrhages in hospital. His father drove another team that night as investigators prepare a coroner report for an inquest.
Mel Hyland from Surrey British Columbia tied for first in saddle bronc riding at the Calgary Stampede scoring 71 on Spaniards. Larry Jordan of Roy Montana also posted 71 on Bar 7X. Jim Smith of Sheldon Wyoming finished second with 69 and Bobby Berger of Norman Oklahoma was third with 68. Berger also placed second in a separate event.
Winnipeg CP Otto Lang, minister responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board, said there will be a gap between the end of the Wheat Reserves Act payments and the start of transitional acre age payments. The measures part of a grain policy package awaiting fall session approval. The Wheat Reserves Act ends July 31. $100 million transitional fund begins after royal assent. Premium collection under the stabilization program will follow legislation.
