Montreal July 14 reforms underway to meet a likely record 1925 harvest in the West. Officials estimate the crop could reach about 75 million dollars, prompting plans to import many harvest workers to manage the expected excess yield.
Reports from Manitoba Saskatchewan and Winnipeg show cooling relief after a week of extreme heat with highs near 99 in Winnipeg and record figures across the Midwest Texas and neighboring states. In St Davids Ontario a bank robbery attempt led to the death of Matt Kollde, who was shot by bank manager Rogers. Mrs Rogers then fatally wounded Kollde. He died at St Catharines General Hospital after being brought there at 7.20 a.m. The incident followed Kollde entering Dr Duggan’s home and the bank before being confronted by Rogers. Provincial Officer Nelson and County Constable Zimmerman investigated.
Washington July 14 Canada and Russia hold the key to the wheat situation says C C Ning foreign crop statistician in a Department of Agriculture statement. World production seen at 2 866 000 000 bushels vs 2 638 000 000 last year with Russia exporting this year and Canada raising output by about 103 600 000 bushels. US crop expected 180 000 000 bushels lower. India France Germany and others show mixed gains.
Ottawa reports that Justice MacLean and a Home Bank Creditor's Relief Act commissioner plan a formal process for creditors of the Home Bank. Liquidators will circulate declaration forms for claims over 500, with 500 and under payments to be completed first. About 70 depositors have claims over 500, and 16,000 under 500 wait on approval by a commissioner as steps to rapid payout begin.
The German cabinet approves a tentative text for its response to France outlining a Western European security pact. Final edits are set for Friday during a cabinet conference with the Reich foreign relations committee and state premiers. Germany’s February pledge lacks a border security pact.
