Fire guts A and B Steel and Aluminum Ltd building
A serious fire at A and B Steel and Aluminum Ltd 902 South Railway 8.E. sent dense black smoke into the air closing South Railway Street and the Allowance Avenue overpass. Fire crews arrived at 12 46 with two trucks and an ambulance as flames shooting up to eight metres erupted. no one was inside. Fire Chief Ron Bell said it was under control but not guaranteed. Staff report five workers were present. cause unknown.

Firefighters battle BC fires as one man dies on line
In southeastern British Columbia the fire fight continues with 687 fires burning and 1,677 since April 15. David Alfred Smith, 22, of 100 Mile House, died after being struck by falling rock while battling a fire between Golden and Valemont.
