Stampede Week Kicks Off With Parades and Shows
The Downtown Kiwanis Club hosts a big branding party at the Westerner 6:30 p.m. Stampede week features 10 bands in the Thursday parade with four city bands and six from out of town. Eas ter Irrigation District band plays at the hospital after the parade. Lethbridge Kiwanis Band performs in Riverside Park. Trailer cavalcade arrives Saturday from Swift Current with about 250 people. The Art B. Thomas Shows set up for Tuesday opening and the 4-H calf show starts Wednesday morning with a sale at 2 p.m.

First winner named at Medicine Hat Quarter Horse Show

Alberta swimmers smash provincial and Canadian records
Sixty six provincial records and 12 Canadian marks fell at the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club's first international meet at Hill Recreation Centre. About 210 swimmers from Medicine Hat Saskatoon Hanna Edmonton Regina Calgary Moose Jaw Lethbridge Swift Current and Ralston competed over two days. US entrant Didgie Blain from Seattle was the only non Canadian. Meet manager Pete Simpson called the event a terrific success. Bow Island Man Drowns at Jensen Dam
MAGRATH Alta. (CP) Joseph Dollfusz 24 of Bow Island drowned Sunday while swimming at Jensen Dam five miles south of here and 28 miles south of Lethbridge. It was the only accidental death reported in Alberta during the weekend.

Convicts Nabbed In Police Raid In Manitoba
Two escapees surrender to RCMP in Brooklands after 56 hours on the run in Manitoba. Bruce Kaiser aged 17 and Robert McKenny 23 were unarmed and gave up after a pre dawn raid. They had abducted Lena Solomon 35 and her son Darryl, later releasing them unharmed. A 15 year old hostage Leo Balcuinas was freed near Winnipeg as the pursuit ended.
