Explosions strike Karachi killing and injuring many
In central Karachi four explosions rocked the city causing at least 20 deaths and about 100 injuries, with blasts at a crowded bus stand and a restaurant among the affected sites. Fire crews and police cordoned off the center as hospitals reported casualties.

Vancouver longshore contract clause scrapped after 17 years

Woman in Hospital After Six Hour Stand Off
An unidentified woman in her early 40s is under guard at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after a six hour siege at 230 Fifth St SE. Police say one shot was fired, negotiators and a SWAT team were deployed, no one injured, and the woman is listed in satisfactory condition. Officers found multiple rifles and other weapons in the home as the standoff ended with the woman brought to the hospital. Continued on Page A3.

North says he rejected $1 million bribe in London
Lt Col Oliver North testified he was offered a $1 million bribe by Iranian intermediary Manucher Ghorbanifar in London last January to keep using his services in secretly arming Iran. Three Taken From Freighter To Face Charges
Halifa x three men from a weathered freighter suspected of smuggling 174 East Indians into Nova Scotia face immigration charges in provincial court. The Amelie was seized 125 nautical miles southeast of Halifax by the coast guard vessel William after docking at a military yard. Nygren and Singh, charged earlier, were arrested at Halifax International Airport. the three crewmen were questioned dockside with a Spanish interpreter.
