Methanol to Gasoline Process Readied for Pilot Plant

Mobil Oil researchers unveiled a methanol to gasoline conversion using a new class of zeolites. A second larger pilot plant could produce about 100 barrels of gasoline daily, with methanol derived from coal. Airborne commander removed for anger at defence chief

Col. Jacques Painchaud commander of the Canadian Airborne Regiment was relieved after publicly criticizing Defence Minister Barney Dawson. The action, announced by Admiral Robert Falls, follows weeks of reports about possible disbandment of the elite unit based at Petawawa Ontario. Painchaud, 43, led about 1000 paratroopers for a year before being reassigned.

Getty to drop reins of office in Alberta politics

Albertan Energy Minister Don Getty announced he will not seek re election in the next provincial vote.
