Sears to close Medicine Hat Mall store this fall

Sears Canada plans to close the Medicine Hat Mall location by mid September with a relocation out of the mall in early October. Twenty full time and 54 part time staff received notice and will get base wages and accrued vacation pay through their last day. Benefits end on the separation date.

Help pours in for evacuees and firefighters in B C

Canadian press report that help from Alberta Saskatchewan Ontario and New Brunswick is arriving to ease a surge of more than 200 wildfires across British Columbia. About 300 firefighters and support staff have joined roughly 1 000 local crew members with the federal government and armed forces providing air support and personnel. Fort McMurray evacuees have organized donations and advisory help, while Thompson Rivers University officials note evacuees arriving with little to nothing after losing everything.

Medicine Hat relaxes patio rules for licensed venues

Local officials welcome provincial changes easing patio regulations for licensed restaurants and bars in Medicine Hat. The moves remove the three foot enclosure requirement and allow outdoor space defined by planters and furniture while reducing licensing separations.
