German invasion forces moving east from the Bialystok Minsk area reportedly halted in several pockets, while Soviet communiques hint the 20 day push may be stopped. London sources say a new offensive could be starting, with the Nazi agency claiming a temporary halt and roads clogged by abandoned and burned-out German vehicles.
Ottawa reports total War Savings certificates sold since movement start reach 70.99 million dollars through June 30. June subscriptions hit 1.11 million applications totaling 7.03 million dollars, a new monthly high. May saw 1.08 million applications as plans for a renewed fall drive follow Victory Loan.

Russians said the offensive had cooled and that German attacks had ceased, while Hitler’s headquarters reported a separate victory in the Bialystok forests with the capture of 323,898 Red Army troops, 3,332 tanks, 1,809 guns and vast supplies.
Fifteen coal miners were killed in an explosion at the Rhigos colliery in Glamorganshire today. The blast collapsed several workings while about seventy men were at work a mile inside the pit. The cause is unknown.

Ottawa July 11 The bacon board urged stronger action to cut domestic pork consumption by 50 percent to meet Canada’s commitments to the United Kingdom. Officials said progress is uneven with Montreal showing a 45 percent drop and other centers only about 10 percent.
London reports question US base claims in Northern Ireland while the Foreign Office confirms American workers are British government employees. Roosevelt says US steel may be used in British bases and US workers abroad may be paid by Britain, with no confirmed knowledge of Northern Ireland or Iceland base developments.
Calgary July 11 Conservative leader in the House of Commons R B Hanson warned in an interview that conscription will come to Canada though it may arrive too late. He said Premier Mackenzie King had accepted the principle of conscription in the National Mobilization Act and that the Prime Minister will take the final step, but the timing remains uncertain.
Royal Air Force heavy bombers with a fighter escort attacked the Le Trait shipyard on the German occupied French coast this morning. One German fighter was destroyed and all British planes returned. The raid followed nightly attacks on the Rhineland. Late daylight operations over northern France reportedly destroyed at least six German fighters.
Canadian highway commissioners favor a northbound route from Prince George British Columbia to Dawson Yukon Territory as the most economical and satisfactory path for the Alaska highway. About 1100 miles of new Canadian roads would be required according to Hon Charles Stewart chairman of the BC Yukon and Alaska highway commission.
The New York Times reports that German pressure on Japan has intensified since the Soviet German hostilities began. Berlin urges an immediate attack to divert Soviet forces, with plans for Japan to seize Vladivostok and strike through outer Mongolia to isolate Soviet Far East forces. Tokyo splits over strategy as Yosuke Matsuoka backs a Soviet drive while Kiichiro Hiranuma favors a southeast push toward the Indies and Singapore.

Bruce Robertson of 441 Cambridge Street escaped serious harm after his bicycle brakes failed and he crashed into H M Freedman's car at the South Railway and Fourth Street intersection. Robertson was thrown onto the running board and dragged about 20 feet before the vehicle stopped. the bike was badly damaged and he received only minor bruises.
Labor department officials said a conference will be held soon between Canadian railway workers and employers to negotiate a wartime cost-of-living bonus. Labor Minister McLarty indicated the government favors a weekly $1.94 bonus for all railway workers after rejecting the majority conciliation board report. The aim is to reach an agreement after the minority proposal limited the bonus to workers earning $25 a week or less.
Advance party of one officer and six men leaves tonight to prepare camp for the 2nd Bn S A R. The main body will depart Sunday morning via the CPR. Most advance troops travel by train with some by truck. The party is commanded by Major D B Hawthorne Quartermaster.
