In Melbourne Australia the Hell family sought enrollment for their five year old son Max at St Peter the Apostle school but the school balked at his surname Hell. Officials later proposed using his mother Wembridge name but withdrew the invitation when the parents reversed course. The family considered moving schools as the controversy drew media attention. Max’s father cites Austrian heritage and meaning of the name as bright.

Redcliff RCMP investigate a Saturday morning semi rollover that sent one man to Medicine Hat Hospital after the truck turned from the Trans-Canada onto Broadway Avenue then Highway Drive and rolled onto its side trapping the driver who was cut free and later released.
Brooks RCMP are investigating a theft from a construction trailer parked on Third Street. Suspects forced entry and stole numerous tools including three drills and a grinder. No arrests announced.
In Kimberley British Columbia a coroner’s inquest heard a 911 recording from Bob Newcombe after a mining incident at the Sullivan mine. Four workers died from oxygen deficiency traced to poisoned air leaking from a nearby dump. Newcombe reported a man down in a water filled sampling shaft before vanishing.
Pakistani government forces stormed the Red Mosque compound in Islamabad shortly before dawn, engaging militants and freeing about 20 children. Officials said the firefight left at least 20 rebels and three soldiers dead as commandos attacked from three directions and cleared the ground floor.
Chicago jurors on day eight of deliberations left the courtroom in good spirits and planned to reconvene Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 45 p.m. CT after another day without a verdict.
A young woman tried to pie Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach at the Stampede breakfast in Calgary. Security officials intervened as the pie was redirected to a guard who restrained the attacker and dragged her away. Stelmach remarked on the professional security force and noted a past copycat incident from four years earlier involving Ralph Klein.
