A solar eclipse sweeping from Alaska across Canada at almost 2000 miles per hour will be a late 20th century North American total eclipse. It traverses Hudson Bay central Quebec northeast New Brunswick Prince Edward Island and eastern Nova Scotia before entering the Atlantic over Sable Island. The totality, about 100 miles wide, lasts just over two minutes, while the moon takes about two hours to cross the sun. Totality occurs at Baker Lake NWT Septies Que. Chatham NB Charlottetown East Quoddy NS. This marks the last Canadian total eclipse until 1979. A team of solar astronomers will observe the sun’s corona from eight miles up northern Canada with a US cargo jet carrying gear. The eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth and sun.
