Fire Hits Plastic Recycling Plant On Industrial Avenue

The Medicine Hat Fire Department responded to a 5:48 a.m. call reporting a fire at New Life Recovery Systems on Industrial Avenue. Three stations and 14 firefighters contained the blaze by 6:30 a.m. with no injuries or air quality concerns. Investigation ongoing.

Taxman's pilot finds unreported tips in Ontario restaurants

Canada Revenue Agency auditors in St. Catharines reviewed two years of income for 145 servers across four eateries. They found every server hid some tips, about half reported no tips, totaling 1.7 million dollars unreported. Auditors say tips often inflated to 100 percent to 200 percent of wages, with servers reporting only 5 to 10 percent of earned tips. The CRA notes the unreported income was very surprising.

Canada pledges extra 227 million for Afghanistan aid

At a Tokyo conference Canada and other donors pledged 16 billion in development aid for Afghanistan through 2015. The funds aim to empower women and support education and humanitarian work, with regular reviews to ensure governance and anti corruption measures are enforced. President Karzai urged reforms while donors stressed strict oversight and rule of law.
