The Great West Ranching Company officers Messrs J F Demertt Wm Owens and J M Signer spent a week in Medicine Hat on business for opening practical work. Headquarters remain Indian Head with plans to move to Medicine Hat when ranch operates. They lease 16594 acres in Red Deer county and will stock 300 to 500 head this summer, up to 1000 next spring. Demertt travels with his bride on his wedding trip.

Fourth of July Picnic Aboard Captain Ross Steamer
Canadians hosted American cousins for a July 4 picnic on the Assiniboia, sailing up the river to Red Cliffs and back. About eighty aboard enjoyed luncheon on the island, with calls at mines. American friends thanked W. T. Finlay MLA and others for the opportunity to celebrate Independence Day.

Large Western Canada horse sale to be held
The Western Packing Company of Canada plans major auctions across the Northwest. One thousand horses will be sold at Medicine Hat on Saturday July 18 starting 11 o'clock at the Dunmore stock yards. Two hundred horses will be offered at Que on July 23, Wolseley July 29, Moosomin August 1. Horses include both broken and unbroken, weighing 1000 to 1400 pounds. This sale aims to be the largest in Western Canada.
