Wind Destroys Grain Crops Across Western Canada

High winds and hail battered a wide area from Amisk Alberta to Brandon Manitoba after an earlier electrical storm. Telecommunication lines were disrupted as tail stones up to pigeon's egg size destroyed standing grain. In Saskatchewan west of Spring Water a 14 by 6 mile strip suffered 75 to 100 percent loss.

Shot and Killed Game Warden at Cranbrook B C

A man named William Floyd shot and killed game warden Dennis Greenwood at the Canal Flats post office as Greenwood approached the car during Floyds legal trouble in July. Floyd, about 50, a former wartime service member, was later found in his home after police arrived. Greenwood leaves a wife and two children. Death of Sir Joseph Ward Grand Old Man of New Zealand

Wellington July 8 Sir Joseph Ward former premier of New Zealand died Monday at 74 after health problems. Known as the Grand Old Man he led as Postmaster General and Prime Minister, championed penny postage and universal service, and helped establish compulsory military training and the all red cable system. Ward, born April 26 1857 in Melbourne, served in parliament from 1887 and held multiple portfolios before premiership in 1906 and later roles. He was an ardent Imperialist noted for naval policy and national service.

City Council Reopens Bond Plan for $100000 Well Drilling

After a long debate the council agreed to re open with the Utilities Commission on funding a $100 000 bond issue to finance a gas well drilling program. Landmark Dawns On First Street Site With New Service Station

Work begins on foundations at the corner of Sixth Avenue and First Street by the existing Company of Canada Ltd. for a new service station in Medicine Hat. The Swan house razing is nearly complete under contractor P Scanlon with supervision by G B Enns of Calvary. The plan calls for a Spanish Mission style building about forty feet wide and ninety five feet deep, with thirty three thousand gallons capacity, washrooms, and modern facilities. Completion and operation are targeted for September 1. the landmark residence’s replacement will mark a shift from concrete era to a stone and brick design.
